As did Bud Ballou, Thom
Saunders after leaving WOLF went to WKBW in Buffalo. Saunders
is pictured above with glasses behind the buffalo. These

Dulmage. Thom Saunders retired in the spring of 2006 after 25
years KOIT, San Francisco.
Many, many thanks to Jeff Hayes and the Hayes Family
for sharing this collection of WOLF personality JOE HAYES. Jeff says
he was the morning announcer along with Red Parton from about
1941-43 and then went to serve Uncle Sam. "He returned to
radio (WOLF) in 1945 and stayed there until 1949 or 1950. He later
moved to WACK in Newark or WGVA in Geneva. Also, I remember my
mother mentioning that he would occasionally do a remote from the
Hotel Syracuse," Jeff wrote. No doubt a WOLF live band
broadcast with Joe serving as M-C from the hotel's Grand
Ballroom. Joe died in Syracuse in
1960.
Another Rick &
Ron Boing Show Winner! |

While Rick & Ron were the morning team on
the Big 15, they often had listener participation. One contest
was the "Boing Show". Bill Drace shared some memories; "I used to be
a huge fan of WOLF... it's the reason I'm in radio, now. Back
in 1977, or was it 1978, Rick and Ron were doing a take off on the
Gong Show called, The Boing Show. They would take callers, and they
would do their act. Being young, stupid, and in high school, I
thought I would give it a shot. I called, played guitar, and sang a
song over the phone. Well, I was the weekly winner!!! I won the
Boing Show Trophy, and I still have it in my office."
Today Bill Drace is Promotions
Manager at Clear Channel, Syracuse. Thanks
Bill!
