Syracuse's most
popular evening disc jockey of all time. He left WOLF for WNDR
in December 1964 and became host of his own TV dance show
which premiered afternoons on then WNYS TV channel 9, February
8, 1965. According to Rick Ryder, Bud was originally hired at
WOLF for part time/weekend work. His full time day job was at
Western Electric on Thompson Road. Bud was an electronic tech
and quit that when offered full time at WOLF. Most likely the
best decision he and WOLF ever made. Bud left WOLF to
move across the street to WNDR. Click Here for The Bud Ballou Beatle
Hour on WNDRWhen Bud left Syracuse he went to KBTR,
Denver. He was replaced by Jim
O'Brien who stayed at
WNDR until his passing. Then Bud moved to Buffalo to replace the
great Joey Reynolds on WKBW Click Here for

1977. Just days after his passing Ron Robin and
WVBF produced a special "Tribute To Bud
Ballou". It featured some of his favorite songs as well
as rare airchecks of WKBW and one of his first shifts on
WOLF (1/14/62) as well as another clip from 64. The
special aired Sunday evening April 17th, and was 60
minutes in length but has has been edited for this
presentation. (Many thanks to Louis Spinnazola of
Revere, Mass. for this rare piece of
history).

Many thanks to Richie
Norris who sent me a copy of The WOLF and WNDR years, a video
documentary on the radio wars between the two stations where some of
these pictures came from. It was produced by Nolan Stephany in
1990 with help from many of the old WOLF staff including pictures
from Ron Wray, Dave Laird, Fran McGrath and WIXT among
others. *Note; Bud Ballou did one shift on
WPOP as an April fools joke orchestrated by WPOP's Woody
Roberts. One of radio's favorite
stunts which probably left WPOP listeners totally confused. On April
Fool's Day 1967, the Good Guys traded places for the day with
the air staff of WKBW Buffalo. KB's Stan Roberts filled in for
WPOP's Bill Bland...Dan Neaverth filled Dan
Clayton's shoes...Jefferson Kaye became Woody
Roberts and Bud Ballou filled in for Lee Simms.
