Rick
Gary May 1975 Rick Gary's first morning May 5th, 1975 returning from WMEX,
Boston. Without question Syracuse's most popular morning team EVER! If you
were to ask anyone in their thirties or forties if they remember W-O-L-F,
they would say "oh sure…Rick and Ron".
Howie
Castle December 1975 Howie came to the Big 15 from
Radio Caroline off the coast of the UK.
(http://www.offshoreradio.co.uk/djsb.htm) This link has a very nice story
of Howie (who used Bud Ballou on Caroline) as well as an aircheck from
1967. What the story dosen't mention is Howie was program director of the
very successful 94 Rock (WSYR-FM) until he left Syracuse in 1981. He is
currently the weekend news anchor on KOGO San Diego,
California.
WOLF Sales
Presentation A portion of the station presentation
for WOLF sales from the Rockin' Richie Norris collection. You'll hear the
line up; Charlie Brown, John Gabriel, Brother Vic and Paul
Kelly.
John Gabriel
January
1976 John replaced Howie Castle afternoon
drive 3-7pm. Howie became an "off the air" progran director just doing
some fill in work. Big John came from the Albany area where he spent some
years at WTRY and returned there after his stay at WOLF. He is currently
at WTRY 98.3. There are some airchecks of John at Reel Radio.com on WTRY
in the early 70s. This aircheck has a "classic" Jim Sims contest promo
near the end! Rick started (as many did) part time on The Big 15, and eventually moving to evenings as "Your Nighttime Companion." Rick stayed with WOLF through 1981 when he joined the sales staff at WHEN radio, and is now a prominent manager at the Clear Channel Group in Syracuse. Here is a Sunday afternoon in February of '76 on WOLF. _______________________________________________________________________________
Brother Vic June 1976 Vic joined The Big 15 in 1974 coming from
WTLB (72-74) in Utica where we were both working part time (Vic/Bob
Mitchell). He was a great addition replacing Jeff Laurence 6-10pm. He
eventually moved on to bigger things including WTRY in Albany and Program
Director at WCHS in Charlston as well as Deputy Sheriff, Kanawha Co. from
1989-94. But radio is in the blood and Vic moved back to the Central New
York Area At KISS 102 in Utica (97-99) and on to KLUV and KVIL in Dallas
(99-01). He is currently with ABC Radio Services in Dallas.
